INTERNAL ASSESSOR – CLAIMS


Role Purpose: The Claims Assessor is responsible for conducting accurate assessments of motor and non-motor claims, supporting cost control, fraud detection, and efficient claims settlement, while also providing Pré-risk evaluation support. The role may additionally undertake claims handling responsibilities during periods of reduced assessment activity to support operational efficiency and service delivery.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
    • Ensure accurate, fair, and timely assessment of all assigned claims.
    • Minimize claims costs through proper validation and cost control.
    • Detect and prevent fraud and leakage in claims.
    • Support reduction in claims turnaround time.
    • Ensure all assessments meet quality and compliance standards.
    • Provide technical support to claims and underwriting teams.
    • Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness at all times.
    • Contribute to improved claims outcomes and overall business profitability.
 
Qualifications Experience and Skills:
 
    • Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related qualification,
    • Trade Test Class B and/or Class C in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (or equivalent recognized trade qualification).
    • Other insurance or loss adjusting qualifications including COP in short term insurance
    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in motor vehicle repairs, vehicle assessment, loss adjusting, or insurance claims assessment.
    • Practical hands-on experience as a qualified motor mechanic or vehicle technician.
    • Experience estimating repair costs and identifying repair methods in accordance with manufacturer standards.
    • Experience assessing accident damage, mechanical failures, and total loss vehicles.
    • Experience with commercial vehicles would be an added advantage.
    • Thorough understanding of:
o Motor vehicle construction and repair techniques.
o Panel beating, spray painting, and chassis alignment.
o Mechanical and electrical vehicle systems.
o Vehicle diagnostics and electronic systems.
o Parts pricing and labour estimating.
o Salvage assessment and valuation.
o Insurance policy interpretation relating to motor claims.
