Main Purpose of the Job
To transform rough diamonds into high-value polished gems by applying advanced technical expertise, precision craftsmanship, and artistic judgment, while optimizing diamond yield, quality, and brilliance. The role also provides specialized training, technical guidance, and advisory support to diamond processing teams, ensuring best practices and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Key Performance Areas
· Applying advanced skills in executing the final stage of the cutting process, known as brillianteering, which involves shaping and refining the diamond’s facets to ideal proportions and perfect symmetry to maximize light reflection, brilliance, and fire.
· Providing guidance and instruction to skilled artisans, ensuring that output meets specific production targets, prescribed standards, and quality specifications (e.g., "3ex" or excellent cut, polish, and symmetry standards).
· Utilizing cutting and polishing instruments and advanced technology to examine and polish gems, ensuring every facet is perfectly aligned to meet strict Tiffany & Co. quality standards and maximize the potential value of the diamonds.
· Applying expertise in advanced evaluation, planning, processing, and finishing systems, which often include AI-based analytics, laser technology and new technology to optimize the diamond production process.
· Analysing rough diamonds to determine the best possible cut, proactively identifying inclusions that could hinder or create challenges during the polishing process and develop diamond unique techniques that address these challenges.
· Maintain and calibrate quality measuring equipment and tools (Sarin, microscopes, workstation, etc.) to the required specifications/settings.
· Ensures that policies and procedures designed to enhance diamond technology, diamond processing and diamond value retention and improvement by optimization are followed to achieve the objectives of Tiffany & Co., and Laurelton Diamonds.
Qualifications:
· Minimum Cambridge or equivalent
· Graduate Gemologist or Gemology Diploma
· Advanced Expertise in Processing and Polishing, with preference for expertise in fine make or triple excellent (3X) quality polished stones, as well as a Proactive approach to diamond optimization and Problem Solving
· Technology based Quality Control that includes diamond planning, in process manufacturing parameters, and final quality grading parameters to assure, clarity, color, cut & carat.
Experience:
· Minimum 10 years extensive practical experience with in-depth knowledge of modern technology to maximize diamond’s value and appearance
· Technical Expertise in technology applications with knowledge of planning and processing software such as Sarin
· Experience in Advising and Training across all workflows from rough planning, preparation, polishing and grading.
